Stewart's
resume reflects a great deal of diverse experience. He has completed
a degree in Company Administration and is a certified accounting
officer for Closed Corporations in South Africa. He has worked
for companies such as Firestone South Africa and served on the
personal staff of Archbishop Desmond Tutu. He has also worked
with the South African Government and many of its state departments,
consulting on IT application, implementation and strategy. He
has IBM and Microsoft certification in project management methodology
and a dual Master of Science Degree at Boston University with
concentrations in Innovation & Technology and E-Commerce.
Stewart also has a Graduate Certificate in Database and Client-Server
Architecture from Boston University.
He
has also worked with numerous developmental and non-government
agencies in Africa. He was responsible for managing several divisions,
including Professional Services, Web Development and Outsourcing
for the regional office of a leading international call center
software development company. As senior IT manager for a major
development partner of the South African Government, Stewart was
responsible for the delivery of software applications for government.
Stewarts
international work experience extends not only to South Africa
but also to the UK, Ireland, Switzerland and several countries
in Africa including Kenya, Mozambique, Botswana, Tanzania, Namibia,
Lesotho and Swaziland.
Having
been involved in human rights issues for a number of years, Stewart
has served on a number of boards and committees in South Africa,
including the Human Rights Committee of Southern Africa, a non-government
organization, the Network of Independent Monitors and the Joint
Forum on Policing. In 1994, during the first democratic election
in South Africa, he worked with the UN and EU Monitoring Group
to South Africa. Through his role in the Human Rights Committee
of Southern Africa, Stewart was privileged to have made submissions
to the formation of the Bill of Rights of the South African Constitution
and to the legislation that governed the Truth And Reconciliation
Commission in South Africa.
Stewart
is an advisor to the board of SHARED (www.healthshares.org), a
non-profit organization dedicated to improving global health by
increasing the availability of essential medicines and vaccines
for the world's poorest people. SHARED currently has projects
in Armenia and Lesotho, Southern Africa. All of Stewart's non-profit
work is provided pro-bono.
